Back to Building

An update on my journey back to engineering and being energized

I rediscovered what I love doing. It’s being a technical co-founder and building apps from zero to one.

Most associate me with being a Product person, and rightly so. I did too.

But I am much more than that and have always been. Role titles can be limiting—something I struggled with after leaving the post of CPO at Packhelp.

Ultimately though, deep down, I am an engineer and a founder. Early-stage startups don’t employ PMs because founders and/or CEOs do the product work themselves. That’s where I thrive and find almost endless energy making things happen, from zero to one.

I spent the last year coding, coding with AI, coding AI, designing, building PoCs, building AI-powered products, completing AI courses, and advising a couple of companies and individuals.

Looking back, I made a somewhat bold decision to follow my intuition and invest my time into AI and engineering. Today, I’m at the bleeding edge of so-called vibe-coding, easily 3x-ing my output, or more. I have developed experience building AI products, positioning myself in the minority of engineers out there.

Some claim that engineering is done. It’s not. Everyone is hiring engineers and rarely PMs. All growing startups are. Also, more and more companies expect engineers to possess product skills nowadays—some even run companies without PMs at all.

Engineering is at this inflection point where so many things become possible. Some tasks become less daunting, tests and documentation almost write themselves, trying new radical things is less expensive.

I was capable of doing so many things lately, thanks to AI and having spent months learning and experimenting with how to make the most out of it. It’s a revolution, slowly brewing, with myself as an early adopter, but it’s there.

It doesn’t come free though—new skills are required.

More on this soon, but TL;DR: I’ve been doing a lot of engineering lately and this post is a form of self-reflection on the last ten months of mine.

Stay tuned!
